Gould

     Blumenbach divided all humans into five groups, that is the Caucasian variety, the Mongolian variety, the Ethiopian variety, the American variety and the Malay variety. This changed the geometry of human order from a geographic to a hierarchical ordering of human diversity. Blumenbach affirmed the mental and moral equality of all people. However, he chose physical beauty as his guide to ranking and affirmed that Europeans were most beautiful. That caused Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence that includes equality of all people except slave. Therefore, Gould is trying to say that the ideas of scientists have effect on the society and the power of ideas is so strong.
     I think the part of relationship between the Declaration of Independence and Blumenbach's idea is useful. And I could not find the weak part.
